Here Comes the Judge

John 5:19-29

There are many court cases being tried on television today. There is Divorce Court, Judge Judy (who started the syndicated court drama), and Judge Brown just to name a few. If we want a day in court to resolve a petty problem, we can take it to one of these television judges.

Just as the Jews were sitting in judgment of Jesus for healing on the Sabbath— which was not a serious problem—people today are constantly judging one another over trivial matters. In the various court sitcoms, we see people taking each other to court over minor issues.  As the Jews tried to judge Jesus, they didn’t realize the case was already closed. This scripture passage says that Jesus can only do what His Father does and what He sees the Father doing. The works He does, the Father enables Him to do. The Jews evidently forgot or were unaware that at Jesus’ baptism He ascended up out of the water and God said, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11 NIV)

Jesus is the true Judge assigned by God our Heavenly Father. Jesus says “whoever hears my word and believes in him who sent me has eternal life.” During this time of economic crisis, the only way to survive is to constantly believe in the Almighty True Judge and life-giver Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only true One who can decide whether we are to live eternally or be condemned to hell. Let us remember that our Savior has total control of where we spend eternity.

Prayer: Master, enable us to realize that Jesus is our true Judge who is in control of each decision we make in our lives. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
